In November 2021, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg rebranded the entire technology company to Meta. Since then, there has been much talk about what the Metaverse is and the purpose it will serve in our lives going forward. I’ll briefly breakdown the Metaverse below.
The Metaverse is a 3D model of the internet and a digital world that exists in the real world. This digital world is a shared virtual space that is interactive and hyper-realistic. Within the Metaverse are many different areas of use such as, virtual concerts, movies, offices, parties, real estate, and its own economy.
The Metaverse is commonly used with different VR (virtual reality) headsets, such as the Oculus. Many video games have VR capabilities, which has grown in popularity over the years. Games such as Fortnite are a great example of the Metaverse. There is accessibility to pick a character and change the character as much as you want and battle in a digital world. Fortnite has utilized its platform to have concerts with artists like Ariana Grande and Silk Sonic.
Some employers are attempting to move toward a complete virtual setting in the Metaverse because it is believed that productivity would increase in the workplace. The Metaverse is growing daily and the next development is incorporating education into the Metaverse.
